Samsung Galaxy S II

The Galaxy S II was released in April 2011, and since then has sold over 20 million units. The popularity of this device has put Samsung in the lead of android sales and they’ve planned a release for a third Galaxy S to be released later this year.

The Galaxy S II comes with a Dual Core 1.2GHz processor, something very impressive at its release date, and sports 1 GB of RAM, something that high end devices being released a year later haven’t improved on.

At a height of 125mm, and a width of 66.1, the device is quite large; it features a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen so the size is understandable.

There are two models with different storage size options. The 16GB and 32GB storage options can also be accompanied by a micro SD card of up to 32GB.

The Galaxy SII has a 8 Megapixel camera, along with a 2 Megapixel front facing camera for video chat.

The Galaxy’s camera works well, with an LED flash, the camera app loads moderately fast, and is handy to have to be able to capture life when you need to.

The Galaxy S2 comes preinstalled with Gingerbread 2.3, with a TouchWiz UI layered over the top. The theme runs quite well with the Galaxy, and there doesn’t seem to be any system lag while browsing through the phone.

We’ve been holding our breath over the last few months for an Ice Cream Sandwich update, and finally we are seeing models receiving the long-waited 4.0 upgrade. Upgrades have started taken place in

Korea and a few places in South America, so we’ll have to wait patiently for more news on the US and UK.

Some Android users prefer stripped down versions of their Android operating system, and try to avoid networks or companies that have bloated the device with unappealing colors and themes. But Korea’s TouchWiz 4.0 does its job nicely, there’s never an intrusive feel to the layout, and everything seems to fit perfectly well together.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 was possibly the best handset of 2011, alongside the iPhone 4S, Samsung have done a great job.
