Nokia Lumia 900

The Nokia Lumia 900 has been out for some time now in the UK, and at first glance it seems like a bulkier version of the Lumia 800, so what features does the Lumia 900 have to offer?

Let’s find out.

The Nokia Lumia 900 has almost identical hardware specifications as the cheaper Lumia 800, they both sport a single-core 1.4GHz Scorpion processor, and their GPU chip is still the same Adreno 205, so no improvement there.

So what would make Windows phone’s Microsoft charge extra for a piece of kit that is almost identical to its’ cheaper counterpart?

There is a small difference, and that is that the Nokia Lumia 900 has fit a whole extra 0.6 inches on top of the Lumia 800’s display. With a 4.3 inch gorilla glass screen, it seems that this may be the only feature worth considering. The Lumia 900 has also included a front facing camera, capturing images or video with 1.3Megapixels, but we have come to expect this from all smartphones at this price, and it was a shock the Lumia 800 didn’t have a front-facing camera in the first place.

The size of the Lumia 900 is a large difference from the 800. Most likely to fit its’ larger screen, the handset is now a few millimeters taller and wider, but surprisingly a little thinner, although the extra 0.6mm taken off of the thickness really doesn’t help, as the handset feels bulky and heavy to hold.

The Nokia 900 runs on the Windows mobile 7.5 operating system, dubbed Mango, which is no surprise really, but there is no information on the possibility of upgrading the OS when Windows mobile 8 is released.

Windows mobile is a while behind Apple and Android, with its’ selection of apps looking very small against Apple’s app store, and Androids Google Play. The OS isn’t very customizable, but instead offers instant updates on your social sites right from your home screen.

With a lack of apps and similar features to the Lumia 800, the 900 is only really there for Windows fan boys, if you’re jumping in joy for the new windows phone handset, then maybe it is for you, if not, perhaps you should consider getting a different high end phone from Apple or Android, or fork out a little less for the slightly smaller, but equally powerful Nokia Lumia 800.
