Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced on the 3rd May, and will be available to the UK public in May 29th, and later released in the rest of the world around a month later.

Samsung has branded it as a phone ‘built for humans’ and has a natural feeling TouchWiz interface, pressing on the screen creates ripples, as if you were submerging your finger into water.

The handset has taken a more curved shape compared to its predecessor with Samsung stating it is ‘like a pebble.’ Just like a pebble, the device is heavier than the S2, and is bigger too, mainly to sport its larger screen.

See further down the page for the Best Galaxy S3 deals and find out which plan suits you best!

The screen is a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen, 0.5 inches bigger than the S2, and a whole 1.3 inches bigger than the iPhone 4S. The resolution is 720x1280, and although HD, the screen isn’t as crisp as the apple iPhone 4S.

The galaxy S3’s hardware specifications were well predicted by many phone experts, and it will be powered by a 1.4GHz quad core Exynos processor. Along with the 1GB of RAM, the Galaxy S3 has a lot to offer performance wise. The device will also come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, and to a relief to many, it will have a micro SD card slot for up to an extra 32GB of storage.

The camera on the S3 is still only 8 megapixels, no improvement to the S2, although it can film in 1080p, which is HD, and lets you take photos whilst recording.

Samsung is offering customers a new feature called S Voice, shipped with the Galaxy S3, many are naming this a rival to Apple’s Siri. S voice is mainly focused on getting your mobile to do what you want without the hassle of misheard commands or the personality that comes with Apple’s voice assistant. S voice even recognizes commands while music is playing.

The Galaxy S3 will also have a feature named ‘smart stay.’ Smart stay will keep track of your eye movements so that your device will never go into standby mode while you’re using it, this feature has received a lot of speculation into how well it actually works, but so far it looks very promising.

Along with Smart stay, the Galaxy S3 offers direct call and smart alert, with direct call, users can hold the phone against their ear and it will automatically call the contact selected. With smart alert, if your S3 receives any social notifications, it will vibrate the moment you pick it up, instead of waking up the screen every time you get a notification, this feature will let us know what notifications we have the moment we touch our device, as well as keeping the screen on standby to save battery.

There are a bundle of more features to be included, such as Pop up Play, which allows users to take their video player and watch it while using other apps. Using Pop up Play will let us carry on watching videos while being able to respond to texts or emails quickly, and is a sure way to test out the Galaxy S3’s beastly quad core processor.

The S3 will be a great counterpart to the Galaxy S2, and we’ll be likely to see it competing aggressively with other top end devices such as the HTC One X, or the next iPhone, likely to be announced later in the year.

The Galaxy S3 will be available for around £499 SIM free, and there will be plenty of contract deals to get the device free for around £36 a month.
